The CBS Radio Mystery Theater marked the resurgence of the Golden Age of Radio. Featuring distinguished actor E. G. Marshall as the host, the series nostalgically encompassed mystery, suspense, drama, and a hint of history. Initially broadcasting daily, the show transitioned to an impressive five times a week after about six years. E. G. Marshall steered the program until its final year when Tammy Grimes took over on February 1, 1982. The lineup predominantly featured veteran radio personalities, with occasional appearances by actors from television and film. While most narratives were original productions, adaptations of works by literary giants such as Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, O. Henry, and Nathaniel Hawthorne were also showcased. Regrettably, the series concluded abruptly in early December 1982, with reruns filling the rest of the year.
